The gift that keeps on giving
Your winemaking experience begins by heading out to the vineyard and picking Shiraz grapes to make your wine.
After a break for lunch after picking, use our hand crusher and your feet to crush your freshly picked Shiraz grapes.
Timing: Same day as Picking
Transfer wine from your fermenter and use a basket press to extract tannin and colour from the grape skins.
Timing: 1-2 weeks from crushing.
After a few months in storage, sediment collected from pressing if removed by racking off to a new container.
Good wine begins in the vineyard and you are able to prune the vines that you’ll later use to make your wine.
Transfer from your demijohn into your freshly prepared bottles.
Design your own label to make your wine your own.

Frequently Asked Questions
What they’re saying
“The Shiraz Republic allows enthusiasts to rent vines and then have their grapes turned into their own signature bottle of plonk. …It’s a temporary rent that allows someone to experience something that is normally out of their reach.” – Alana Schetzer, The Age
“This family-run winery lets oenophiles take their wine nerdy to the next level by renting a row of grapes to produce their own small-batch vintage.” – Linsey Rendell, Broadsheet
“Just like Airbnb has done with accommodation or Uber has with transport, Brian’s 10ha vineyard is allowing wannabe viticulturists and winemakers to experience a side of agriculture out of reach to the unlanded gentry.” – Sarah Hudson, Weekly Times
“Everybody helps everybody else as we learn what we are doing and at the end of the day it really does feel like a group of strangers did turn into a real community of winemakers.”- Lexi, first time customer, No Eyed Deer Sydney
“3 seasons ago we discovered Rent-a-Row via Facebook and with another family member signed up for a vintner adventure.
It has been a joy and delight to make our own wine with an authentic hands on and foot stomping approach and sharing in the energy and craziness of 3 harvests and vintages (really we are hooked and setting up a cellar).
We love watching everyone learning, and kids joining in the new experience. We are pretty proud of our wine and the labels design gets better each year, (we hope the Shiraz does too. ) Brian, Spencer, Matt, Lara and Janet welcomed us to share this adventure with them. This is a special place where we became citizens, and belonged, we have watched a fledgling idea burst into life and grow into reality.
We confidently recommended Rent-a-Row to our friends and colleagues and many have joined. Everyone of them have thanked us and agreed that it really was such a fun, different, relaxed and great experience.
Thanks Shiraz Republic for some great times of wine making and friendship and we look forward to our Rent-a-Row adventures continuing..” – Roy & Jo Hamer, third year Citizens
