Shiraz Republic Wine 2008 Shiraz

"Wine to me is passion. It's family and friends.
It's warmth of heart and generosity of spirit.
Wine is art. It's culture. It's the essence of civilization and the art of living."

Tasting Notes

Cornella Ridge Estate is located in the heart of the Heathcote region on red Cambrian volcanic soils. The ancient soils produce extraordinary Shiraz. The slopes are gentle, well drained and frost-free.

Traditional hands-on wine making methods were used at every stage of the process of making these wines. Low yields, hand picked, and hand plunged fruit in open fermenting vats allow the intense colours and flavour of the fruit to speak for itself. Minimal intervention in the natural processes allows good fruit to become fine wine.

Shiraz Republic Heathcote Shiraz 2008

This is 100% Shiraz. Produced in ridiculously small volumes, this wine is the product of a single vineyard and a simple philosophy.  Traditional hands-on wine making methods were used at every stage of the process.  Low yields, hand picking, fully ripe fruit and hand plunging in open fermenting vats allow the intense colours and flavours of the fruit to speak for itself.  It is fruit dominated and full of rich varietal flavours. Lightly oaked and minimal intervention let the natural processes turn good fruit into fine wine.  It’s nice and dry on the palate with attractive soft tannins and vanillan oak.  It could easily take a bit of bottle age to gain further complexity too. No pretence, just damn fine wine.

Cornella Ridge Heathcote Shiraz 2006

Lots of interesting things to smell and taste - an intriguing nose of chocolate, mint and black fruit being the main ones. Sensitively oaked, it’s nice and dry on the palate with attractive soft tannins, spice and vanillan oak.  Just above medium bodied with good freshness and very drinkable, although not especially deep. It has gained further complexity since being in the bottle. Very nice wine. Good value and authenticity.
